2A, 2B & 2C: Medicinal Plants Project

You must do a presentation in class (without computers/ PowerPoint) and poster (get re-used paper from Pily) about a medicinal plant

Work in groups of 3. Your teacher will tell you which plant
PLANT:

  • Common name (in English and Spanish) and scientific name
  • How does the plant reproduce?
  • Climate
  • How to take care of it e.g. how much water, how much sun etc.?
  • Properties and uses
  • In the school, where can we plant it?




TIPS
           
            -Bring the plant to show in the presentation (extra points)
-The presentation should be 2 minutes long (minimum 1m30s, maximum 2m30s)
-Put your names and list numbers on your poster

2. Why is the gas plant being developed in Manzanillo?

3. What is changing in the roads from Manzanillo to Colima and what’s the connection to the gas plant?

4. What environmental effect do these changes have? Use an example like building a bridge

Make a video explaining to the class how to grow a vegetable

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Make groups of 3
  2. Write down names and list number on paper. Your teacher will tell you which number and vegetable you are

QUESTIONS

In your videos, show the answer to these questions. You should do it, not only explain!

  1. Where should you plant it?
  2. What should you add to the soil?
  3. How do you plant it? (how deep in soil? How many seeds? How far apart do you plant each plant?)
  4. How long until it’s ready?
  5. What can you do to help it grow?
  6. What are the advantages of growing it?

TIPS

  • Search the internet for information, and also use www.rhs.org.uk/Gardening/Grow-Your-Own or www.growyourown.co.uk/
  • Show how to plant it in your video (you can buy seeds in “La casa de la mora” in the centre, but if you don’t have seeds, use an alternative)
  • Make sure you can hear the video clearly. Film in a quiet place, speak close to the camera and speak loudly. All students must speak.

EVALUATION

Your work will be graded on:

-information (did you answer all the questions?) (10 points)

-how well you explained (did you show how to plant it in the video?) (5 points)

-video quality (can you hear and see it well?) (5 points)

The video must be given to Mike in USB or disk (not cell phones, cameras etc.!!). before class next Monday 30th January, including:

Your names, group and grade (e.g. 3a)

THE VIDEO FILE MUST BE COMPATIBLE TO WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER. IF THE TEACHER CAN’T OPEN IT, IT WILL RECEIVE 0 MARKS. VIDEOS DELIVERED ON CAMERAS, CELL PHONES ETC. WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
